The
wye at Peters is where the Milton branch leaves the main line. Peters is
in the midst of the farming areas and there are no industries situated here
except for the Pacific Coast Oil Refinery built to handle the hitherto overlooked
oil fields nearby. The main importance of Peters, however, is the junction
and the train order station. There is a general store, blacksmith and a
small hotel but not much else. The small freight house can handle all that
is destined for the surrounding area.![]()

In the late afternoon, MSN Train No. 4 meets the Copperopolis Passenger at Peters. The small 4-4-0 will soon start back up the branch to Copperopolis.
After No. 4 departs, the local turns on the wye and pulls out of Peters up the branch. In the meantime, engine 22 arrives and switches the freight house.
The section foreman lives in the small house located across the tracks from the freight station. Later in the afternoon, a new portable steam engine is delivered to the team track behind the fuel docks. Photos are courtesy of the traveling photographer.
At the real Peters, the abandoned roadbed points toward Milton and the Sierra foothills.
