For many years, Oakdale was the end of the line for the Stockton & Copperopolis. After gaining "control" of the S&C, the Moraga Springs Northern extended the line southward to establish its Valley Division.
From a small farming community, Oakdale has grown and now is home to several types of industry. Besides the grain warehouses, a flour mill, oil depot, lumber yard, soda works, wagon factory and the city gas work will be served by the railroad.
Local passenger and freight trains originate and terminate here and the Moraga Springs Northern has just built a large engine terminal
on the outskirts of town.
The left-most picture looks eastward down the main line. The short siding will be the house track in front of the depot with the turntable being to the right. In the right picture, the main line will cross over J Street on a short trestle as it rounds the curve toward Merced.
The bottom photo shows the new roundhouse site. At the left are the Merced staging tracks disappearing. These tracks will all be hidden from view.
