The Copperopolis extension finally allowed the S&C to reach its other namesake city. At the end of a long grade, the railroad finds itself stretched out on the side of the hill. The railroad will serve the Union Copper Mine while also serving other mines indirectly through the freight house. The upper track handles coal deliveries to the mine while the lower track handles incoming supplies and outgoing processed ore.

A two-stall engine house provides shelter for the locomotives working this branch.

Of course, the real S&C never got to Copperopolis so the town will be completely freelanced. I have photographs of some of the original structures and some of these may be built depending on space.

The depot and enginehouse for Copperopolis are in their places and the turntable is now working. Trains can be run to the end of the branch, turned and run back to Peters. The turntable is scratchbuilt and was featured in a construction article in Railroad Model Craftsman seveal years ago and the enginehouse was built from a 1948 John Allen article.

The photos below show Copperopolis looking from the west and east. The picture at the right is the site of the Royal Consolidated Copper Mine. Tracks on top will be for the delivery of coal while the bottom tracks will be for the removal of ore concentrate and delivery of machinery.
